Day 23 Sunday February 3

Going to have a party - Jim and Connie's van stealthily waits behind

Continuing coverage of Anza-Borrego Desert State Park

Spent some of the morning watching the guy in  number 80 for signs of departure; for a time just before noon I was intently focused on what I thought might be his white socked foot just visible looking through the underside of his unit, but it was so still for so long that I doubted it was alive.

I was assigned to monitor this slothful person for E of F and E thus my watchfulness was more than mere anthropology. Miraculously he and his unit were gone 6 minutes past noon checkout time and F and E moved from spot 94 to 80. At about the same time Jim and Connie (J and C) put their large sprinter in an open spot across the street and next to the showers because they had been at Rock House (national forest open camp, aka dirt) and felt they wanted one. Also a party had been scheduled for 5 pm and so all was set save for the arrival of Liesbet and Mark, they of the 15 years of no fixed address. Pause here to make preparations for the party.

Day turning chiller, wind coming. Awning closed, carpet stowed. I worry for the party. No Liesbet, no Mark. Almost time!

Party great. Cold but with solid fire and serious food; one biscuit each, sushi, chili, gummy bears . Starry, starry night. Broke up about 8, home for a hot tody.

We speak not of living in the van but as living out of the van as in living out of a suitcase.

Vintage RV park was to die for, Silver Streaks everywhere, perfect small yards with ramadas and palms and patios all perfectly tended since 1960.

Discussed Slab City with J but still not sure if it is a tourist destination, Sanctuary Mount easy. East Jesus less so.
